Lenten Triodion
The **Lenten Triodion** is a liturgical book of the Orthodox Church containing the hymns and services for the period of preparation for Great Lent, for the Holy Forty Days themselves, and for Holy Week. In the **preparatory weeks** it gradually leads the faithful into the labor of the fast through the themes of humility, repentance, the Last Judgment, and forgiveness. During **Great Lent** its services are devoted to repentance, prayer, the struggle against the passions, and the spiritual purification of the human person. In **Holy Week** the texts of the Triodion focus on the last days of the Savior’s earthly life, His sufferings, His death on the Cross, and His burial. The book is used from the Sunday of the Publican and the Pharisee through Great and Holy Saturday inclusive.
