Metropolitan Macarius (Bulgakov; 1816–1882) was an outstanding Russian Orthodox theologian, church historian and hierarch who occupied the see of the Metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna. He is known for his fundamental works «Orthodox Dogmatic Theology» and the multi-volume «History of the Russian Church», which had a great influence on the development of Russian theological scholarship.
